Reuters | Apr 28, 2009 |
MEXICO CITY, April 28 (Reuters) – Mexico’s Senate approved a bill on Tuesday decriminalizing possession of small amounts of narcotics for personal use, in order to free resources to fight violent drug cartels.

The bill, proposed by conservative President Felipe Calderon, would make it legal to carry up to 5 grams (0.18 ounces) of marijuana, 500 milligrams (0.018 ounces) of cocaine and tiny quantities of other drugs such as heroin and methamphetamines.

Okies wakeup: Mexican cartels already in state
Tulsa World | Apr 26, 2009 | By RON JACKSON NewsOK.com
Crossing a Mexican drug cartel usually comes with a price — death.

On the U.S.- Mexico border, that price is being paid daily with an endless stream of execution-style slayings in a war to control drug routes to the north.

As Mexican officials crack down on these cartels, violence spreads. Lives are merely the cost of doing business, and since 2007 the international press has documented more than 7,400 drug war-related murders on the border.

The Des Moines Register | Apr 25, 2009 | By CHASE DAVIS • cdavis@dmreg.com
A Polk County judge has ruled that the Iowa Board of Pharmacy must examine whether marijuana has an accepted medical use – a decision some said could thaw the debate on its use for medical purposes in Iowa.

The ruling Thursday by District Judge Joel Novak does not legalize medical marijuana in Iowa. Instead, it requires the pharmacy board to consider whether marijuana is properly classified as a Schedule I controlled substance under state law.

Roll Call Is NORML!

January 3rd, 2009 By: Allen St. Pierre, NORML Executive Director — Capitol Hill Cannabis Law Reform Lobby Highlighted Since the election of Barack Obama to the presidency, despite the government’s best, but utterly feckless efforts to suppress cannabis culture and use in America, the ‘buzz’ in Washington D.C. and nationwide these days about alternatives to cannabis prohibition is palpable. Is real change afoot here as indicated by these mainstream, political publications casting needed public and political attention towards NORML’s nearly 40-years of grassroots advocacy? Time, and increased public efforts by reformers, will tell…

TX Cops Get Busted
Barry Cooper’s new reality show ‘Kop Busters’ gets the footage for its pilot on 12/4/08.

It’s called an informant plant. The Odessa narcotics unit illegally compelled an informant to plant drugs on Yolanda Madden. The informant testified in federal court he planted the drugs on her and he passed a polygraph confirming the same. Yolanda also passed a polygraph along with a hair follicle and urine test. Our broken criminal justice system ignored the evidence and railroaded her through court sentencing her to 8 years in prison.
